Summer is a great time to treat yourself to a trip to the movies. With the usual feast of feel-good, action and comedy flicks you can escape the sun for a few hours and indulge in some popcorn and Pepsi. Here’s the round-up for this summer, there’s a good variety including one seriously scary tale that I recommend you don’t watch alone!
The sinister Deceptions are back on a mission to return to earth and capture their prey – Sam Witwicky. Even this movie falls into a genre you wouldn’t usually watch, you are guaranteed to be won over by the fantastic action scenes and if not, well you can just enjoy looking at Shia La Boeuf!
This has been billed as a blend of old and new comedy. This wacky spoof stars Jack Black and Micheal Cera. In this stone-age comedy they play two hunter-gatherers who have been rejected from their clan for their laziness. Now, they must brave a journey of self-discovery and learn to fend for themselves in this prehistoric landscape.
If you are a Johnny Depp lover (‘fan’ is not strong enough to describe my adoration!), you will be first in the queue for this movie! Johnny plays Depression-era wiseguy John Dillinger who is hunted by the implacable FBI man played by Christian Bale.
This movie is great for kids of all ages and even very big ones like you! Scrat returns for this third movie and find some romance with a sharp toothed squirrel names Scratte!

Unfortunately we are reaching the end of this enthralling epic of storytelling. Harry Potter, played by a now grown-up Daniel Radcliffe, enters his 6th year at Hogwarths and is suffering some romantic frustrations relating to a special book of spells.

This film sent some chills through the audience at Cannes! This horror nightmare tells the story of a grieving couple who move to woodland cabin to come to terms with their loss. As the chilling story uncurls an eveil spirit emerges. Make sure you have a shoulder to hide behind especially for the last 20 minutes!
So that’s my pick of this season’s hottest movies. Although, this season has a hard act to follow with the movie excellence of late.
Movies such as Slumdog Millionaire, The Reader, Revolutionary Road and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button have been added to my list of classics.
It’s a long list though! I’m also excited by the fact Scarface is being re-released, I love all the mobster type movies and this is an absolute classic. What’s your favourite genre of film? Mine is definitely gangster, with Goodfellas as my all time favourite.
I’ve also got a huge crush on Johnny Depp so you know which queue you’ll find me in!
What about you? Are you eagerly awaiting any of these movies? Are there any that you don’t want to see? I’m still not sure if I’m brave enough to see Antichrist!
